About Us

Froqel began the way most honest pet projects do, not with a business plan, but with a dog.

When I adopted Barnaby, my Golden Retriever, over ten years ago, I thought I was reasonably prepared. I'd read the books. I'd watched the videos. I felt ready. What I wasn't prepared for was the gap between general advice and the specific, real-life questions that show up at 11pm when your puppy is doing something strange and every search result either panics you unnecessarily or tells you almost nothing useful.

Why does he follow me into the laundry room and stare at me like I'm doing something important? Is this breath smell normal or a warning sign? How much is too much banana? Why is he eating grass again?

I'm Emily Harper, and I built Froqel because I kept wishing a resource like this already existed.

What Froqel is

Froqel is a dog care blog built around one idea: that dog owners deserve clear, responsible, and genuinely useful information, written by someone who has lived with a dog for over a decade, researched topics carefully, and has no interest in alarming you unnecessarily or burying the answer in filler.

Every article on this site goes through the same process. I identify the question a real dog owner is actually asking. I research it carefully against trusted veterinary sources, organizations like the American Kennel Club, the American Veterinary Dental College, the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals, and peer-reviewed clinical literature. I write the answer the way I'd explain it to a friend: plainly, with enough detail to be genuinely useful, and without pretending the topic is simpler or scarier than it is. Then I make sure the article reflects real-world experience, not just textbook summaries.

Barnaby has been an involuntary research participant throughout all of this. His velcro phase taught me more about separation anxiety than any article I read. His first professional dental cleaning changed how I think about dog oral health entirely. The afternoon I found him eyeing a banana peel on the floor was the beginning of a deep dive into which human foods are actually safe and which aren't. He is, in his own unhelpful way, an excellent editor.

What Emily Harper is, and isn't

I want to be transparent about something, because I think it matters.

I am not a veterinarian. I am not a certified animal behaviorist or a veterinary nutritionist. I am a dog owner with ten years of firsthand experience, a genuine commitment to accuracy, and the kind of obsessive research habits that made me the person my friends call when they have a dog question at an inconvenient hour.

What that means in practice: Froqel's articles are educational, not diagnostic. They are written to help you understand what you're looking at, ask better questions at your next vet visit, and know when something needs professional attention rather than a home remedy. Every article that touches on health, behavior, or nutrition includes a reminderto consult a licensed veterinarian for anything specific to your dog's situation, not as a legal formality, but because I mean it.

The goal is to be the knowledgeable friend, not the replacement for the professional.

How we approach content

Every article on Froqel is built to answer the question a real dog owner is actually typing into a search bar, not a keyword-optimized version of that question, but the real one. We research against primary and institutional sources. We cite those sources openly in every article, in a "How we researched this" section at the bottom. We don't recommend products in editorial content without disclosing the relationship, and we don't write alarmist headlines to drive clicks.

A few things we believe strongly:

Depth over volume. We would rather publish one well-researched, genuinely useful article than ten thin ones. Every piece goes through a full editorial review before it's published.

Transparency about what we are. Every article carries an editorial note making clear that Froqel's content is educational, not a substitute for veterinary advice. This isn't fine print, it's the foundation of how we think about our responsibility to readers.

Plain language, always. Dog owners don't need to learn a new vocabulary to understand their dog's health. We use accurate terminology where it matters and plain English everywhere else.

No false reassurance, no unnecessary alarm. Some conditions are genuinely urgent. Others are far less serious than a Google search might suggest. We try to make that distinction clearly, every time.

A note on medical content

Froqel covers topics that touch on animal health, dental disease, ear infections, orthopedic conditions, digestive problems, behavior and anxiety, breed-specific risks, and more. We take this responsibility seriously.

All health-related articles are researched against trusted veterinary and institutional sources. Articles covering urgent conditions include explicit guidance on when to seek emergency care. We do not speculate beyond what the evidence supports, and we update articles when new information becomes available.
